Seed Starting Potting Mix – 6L

EGP 65

The Agricultural Seed Starting Mix is a specially formulated blend of cocopeat (coconut coir) and vermiculite, designed to provide the ideal environment for seed germination and early plant growth. This mix combines the excellent water retention and aeration properties of cocopeat with the nutrient retention and soil conditioning benefits of vermiculite.
Brands: HRZFG

Description

Information

  • Cocopeat: Derived from the husk of coconuts, cocopeat is a natural, sustainable, and renewable resource. It is known for its high water retention, aeration, and ability to support healthy root growth.
  • Vermiculite: A naturally occurring mineral that expands when heated, vermiculite improves moisture retention, aeration, and provides essential nutrients to plants.

Specifications

  • Pack Size: 6 Liters
  • Composition: 70% Cocopeat, 30% Vermiculite
  • pH: Neutral to slightly alkaline (6.5-7.5)
  • Water Retention: High (cocopeat can retain 8-9 times its weight in water)
  • Aeration: Excellent
  • Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC): High
  • Density: Low to medium (approx. 800-1600 kg/m³)

Preferences

  • Preferred for starting seeds due to its optimal balance of moisture retention, aeration, and nutrient availability.
  • Ideal for a variety of plants, including vegetables, herbs, flowers, and ornamentals.

Benefits

  • Enhances seed germination rates and early plant growth.
  • Improves root structure and overall plant health.
  • Reduces the need for frequent watering.
  • Provides a clean and disease-free growing environment.
  • Supports sustainable agricultural practices.

Uses

  • Seed Germination: Primary use for starting seeds in trays, pots, or directly in the garden.
  • Transplanting Medium: Ideal for young plants transitioning from seed trays to larger pots or outdoor beds.
  • Hydroponics: Suitable for various hydroponic applications, including NFT, DWC & Dutch buckets.

*CEC: Cation exchange capacity (CEC) is a measure of the total negative charges within the soil that adsorb plant nutrient cations such as calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+) and potassium (K+). As such, the CEC is a property of a soil that describes its capacity to supply nutrient cations to the soil solution for plant uptake.

Additional information

Dimensions35 × 20 × 5 cm

Advantages

  • Water Retention: Holds ample moisture for seed germination and early growth.
  • Aeration: Prevents soil compaction, ensuring good root development.
  • Nutrient Retention: Retains and slowly releases essential nutrients to young plants.
  • Sterile Medium: Free from pathogens and contaminants.
  • Sustainable: Made from renewable resources.

How to use

  1. Seed Starting: Fill trays or pots with the seed starting mix. Sow seeds according to the recommended depth and spacing. Water gently to moisten the mix.
  2. Transplanting: Once seedlings have developed true leaves, they can be transplanted into larger containers or garden beds with similar soil composition.
  3. Hydroponic Systems: Use in NFT pots, DWC pots & Dutch buckets or other hydroponic systems for enhanced root support and nutrient availability.
