Planting seasons

Planting Regina cucumber depends on climatic conditions, where it is preferable to:

  • Summer planting: starts from February to May.

  • Autumn planting: from August to September.

  • Greenhouse cultivation: available throughout the year provided that temperature and humidity are controlled.

  1. Requirements for the appropriate environment

  • Optimal temperature: between 20-30 degrees Celsius.

  • Suitable soil: light, well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter.

  • Ideal pH: between 5.5 – 7.0.

Planting methods

  1. Open field cultivation

  • Soil preparation:

o Plow the land well and add organic fertilizer.

o Create terraces 20 cm high and 80-100 cm wide.

o Prepare a drip or flood irrigation network.

  • Cultivation method:

o Seeds are planted directly on the terraces or under plastic covers to protect the seedlings.

o Distance between plants: 30-40 cm.

  1. Greenhouse cultivation

  • Greenhouses are used to increase productivity and protect plants from harsh weather conditions.

  • It relies on vertical cultivation using suspension threads to support the plants.

Care and fertilization

  1. Irrigation

  • Drip irrigation is best to reduce fungal diseases.

  • Cucumbers need regular irrigation, especially in the early stages of growth and fruiting.

  • Avoid over-irrigation to prevent root rot.

  1. Fertilization

Cucumbers need a balanced fertilization program that includes:

  • Organic fertilizers: such as compost to improve the soil.

  • Chemical fertilizers:

o Nitrogen (N): to enhance vegetative growth.

o Phosphorus (P): To strengthen the roots and stimulate flowering.

o Potassium (K): To increase the quality of the fruits and improve the plant’s tolerance to environmental conditions.

  • Foliar fertilizers: such as calcium and zinc to improve plant resistance.

Cucumbers are picked when they reach a length of 5-10 cm, which is the ideal size for pickling.

  • Pickling:
