This perennial French plant is one of the most renowned plants in the world of herbs. This variety’s horticultural name is “Thymus Officinalis”. You can sow it from March to August and will be ready to be harvested in the summer. It prefers light, cold soils, and tolerates partial shade. Thyme can grow up to 30.5 cm high.

General Info

  • Thyme has dietary, medicinal, and ornamental benefits.

  • The flowers, leaves, and oil of thyme have been used to treat a range of symptoms.

  • The small aromatic leaves, with an excellent flavor, are used to season meat, fish, eggs, salads and to make sauces as well. 

  • You can dry the plant in small batches, cover them with paper bags and collect the leaves as they fall.

  • This is another herb which,given the correct growing conditions of sunlight and relatively dry soil, will give many years of enjoyment and useful kitchen ingredients.

  • Herbs like thyme do not need to be hidden away in a herb garden, it can be used as an edging plant or border infill where it will happily grow and flower and encourage bees and other wildlife to the garden.

Days to Maturity: 45 days after seedling

Hardiness Zone: Between 5 to 8

Planting Depth: 1 cm

Plant Spacing: 25 cm: 30 cm

Soil Preference: 70% Cocopeat 10% Vermiculite 5% Perlite 15% Plant Compost.

Light Preference: Full sun, part shade

Color: Green

Flavor: Earthy and minty 

pH Range: 5.5 – 7.0

EC: 0.8 – 1.9 

TDS:  512-1216

Germination Days: 7 – 15 days 

  1. Prepare your soil mix and put your seeds at 1 cm depth.

  2. Spray the seeds and cover them with a plastic case to accelerate the germination process, don’t forget to make holes in the plastic case for the seeds to breathe.

Harvesting

  • Once thyme is fully grown, start harvesting with scissors.

  • Harvest from spring to autumn and use whenever you need.

  • The whole plant can be harvested at once, or just cut some leaves.
