Tall Utah is a crisp, deep green celery with tightly folded hearts, and broad, thick, well-rounded stalks. It is a vigorous stringless variety with excellent, crunchy texture.

Celery leaves are also edible and tasty, and contain significant amounts of vitamin A.

It’s used raw ,in the kitchen, or cooked in numerous ways and it is known for its light and refreshing flavor in soups and stocks.

Pectin-based polysaccharides in celery, including a compound known as apiuman, have been shown to decrease instances of stomach ulcers, improve the lining of the stomach, and modulate stomach secretions in animal studies.

There’s a high water percentile in celery — almost 95 percent — plus generous amounts of soluble and insoluble fiber. All of those support a healthy digestive tract and keep you regular. One cup of celery sticks has 5 grams of dietary fiber.

Growing Guidelines

– Days to Maturity: 70-125 Days

– Planting Depth: Put on top of the soil, exposed to the sunlight

– Plant Spacing: 15 cm: 50 cm

– Soil Preference: 70% Cocopeat 10% Vermiculite 5% Perlite 15% Plant Compost (You can increase up to 30% compost for mature plants)

– Temp Preference: Cool (18°C: 24°C)

– Light Preference: Full Sun but with cooler temperatures

– Color: Green

– EC: 8 to 2.4

– TDS: 1152 to 1536 PPM

– pH: 6 to 6.5

– Prepare your soil mix and put your seeds on the surface of the soil, as celery seeds must be in light until the germination process.

– Spray the seeds and cover them with a plastic case to accelerate the germination process, don’t forget to make holes in the plastic case for the seeds to breathe. Germination takes around 7 to 15 days.

– When celery leaves begin to emerge, remove the plastic cover and place the container in a sunny spot, always keeping the soil moist.

– Celery is a heavy feeder, so keep it well-watered and fed to aid quick growth using a balanced fertilizer. Avoid watering the leaves or stalks to prevent rot.

– Incorporate lots of organic matter into the soil to help hold moisture.

– Start seeding in Spring when the weather has warmed up so the crop matures in Fall. Mature celery lasts into the Winter, with a light frost protection.

Harvesting

– Remove any side shoots forming at the base of the plant.

– To harvest, cut the stalks from the outer part of the plant whenever they are large enough, or you can harvest the entire plant by cutting them at ground level.

– For the best flavor and the longest storage, water the plants the day before harvest.

– At maturity, Tall Utah Celery grows up to 46 cm: 60 cm
